Problems Commenting

I don't know if anyone can help me, but I don't seem to be able to comment on a lot of people's blogs when I'm using my laptop.

The blogs in question have a comments box like this

As you will notice, they are blogspot blogs and I am signed in on my blogspot account. If I use the broadband PC at the house, I am able to comment, but not when I'm using my laptop.

Some people have managed to adapt their comments pages so that it comes up with the same comments box that shows on my posts, but I'm not sure what it is that they've done.

Can anyone explain what's going on? Is it something I can configure on my laptop or what do the bloggers need to do to change things at their end?

Don't know why this works sometimes. Try running your disk cleanup under your accessories/system tools. Other than that I have no clue. Good luck with it.

Not an answer as such (yet!) but I can't see it being a hardware problem. That leaves software (or user-error, but we'll set that one to one side!).

So, what operating systems run on the two machines? Service Pack levels? Internet browers?

Start there and see if you can spot any differences - after all, if the two machines were identical we'd expect them to behave in the same way.

Ro, As far as I am aware, they are both running on Windows XP and everything is updated regularly. I also use Firefox and AVG on both. The only thing that is different is that I sometimes have problems on the laptop with connection times but that normally manifests as not being able to view the page at all.

However, saying this, a couple of bloggers have managed to tweak their comments boxes in such a way that I now get the normal blogger comment box.

Well, I know that going between the two types of comment is simply a Blogger setting.

Why one type should work for you and the other not though ...

Perhaps I'm asking the wrong question: when you say you "can't comment", what exactly do you see when you try to access comments on the laptop? Do you see the comment box but you can't type into it? Does the comment box not appear at all? Other?

Hi Ro, It's just happened again on Bagman's blog but I cant copy it to show you.

It says

POST A COMMENT

Then there is a box for comments into which I can type.

Under the box it says

Comment as

Then there is a very small box with a drop down menu but nothing drops down. Next to it, it says 'Sign Out' and I can click on this.

Below there are buttons for Post Comment and Preview but whichever one I press nothing happens :( It all just sits there whilst tumbleweed blows past.

Well, it looks as if this might be a problem running Javascript.

This is often turned off because it's a good (if that's the right term) way to spread viruses.

You might want to start by taking a look at your Firefox options/preferences as its possible to disable both Java and Javascript there.

Hey Ro,

Both Java and Javascript are enabled. Should I turn them off then?

Does it happen with Internet Explorer too? If not, than it's a FF issue.
