As I reached down to put something in my bag, I heard it.
The group of young lads at the table behind me had obviously been there since the party started and were at that stage where they mutter to each other about the other guests in a stage whisper that is obvious to the more sober eavesdropper.
He nudged his mate and shrugged with his arm in my direction and repeated his first comment:
"If she was 20 years younger, I'd do her, wouldn't you?"
If I'd been quicker, I would have replied that I wouldn't have done either of them... now or 20 years ago.
But, instead, I just smiled to myself and took the remark in the spirit with which I think it was intended and enjoyed the compliment.
